Breaking the Silence on Night Terrors and Demonic Attacks
Are you suffering from night terrors, sleep paralysis, or disturbing, unexplainable nighttime assaults? If so, you know the pain of feeling isolated, misunderstood, dismissed as "crazy," or told it’s just a bad dream. The truth is, countless believers—and seekers—quietly endure these battles, desperately searching for answers in a church landscape that often treats the supernatural as taboo.
Problem: Mainstream Christianity rarely addresses the reality of supernatural attacks, leaving those afflicted feeling rejected, alone, and without support. When the church goes silent, the spiritually hungry flock to alternative (and dangerous) new-age solutions, drawn by their openness to the supernatural—even as these solutions ultimately enslave rather than deliver.
Agitation: I’ve walked this road myself—haunted by demonic encounters, suffocation, and torment in the night. For years, my family wrote it off as simple nightmares, and the church offered no help. Like many, I was driven outside biblical Christianity, desperate for relief and guidance.
Solution Preview: This post is your rally point. We’re digging deep into how Jesus, working through spiritual principles and prophetic revelation, holds the key to freedom from night terrors and demonic oppression. You will find expanded teachings, biblical truth, practical steps, and personal encouragement. You’re not alone... and you can be delivered.
Main Message: The Supernatural is Real, and Jesus is the Solution
Why Most Churches Won’t Talk About It
The mainstream church, by and large, shies away from all things supernatural. Polls suggest only about 25–30% of people even admit to unexplainable encounters. For the rest, anyone with a supernatural testimony is crazy. The result? The church dismisses or sweeps under the rug demonic activity, night terrors, and prophetic experiences—leaving a generation spiritually malnourished.
Those suffering with night terrors feel isolated. I’ve been there—tormented for years, dismissed by family and church alike. The etymology of "nightmare" speaks volumes: in the late 13th century, it referred to an evil spirit that suffocated sleepers. The experience of suffocation, paralysis, and terror is nothing new... it’s the ancient battle between demonic forces and the children of God. But the church’s silence has driven many into new-age religions that embrace the supernatural—but with deceptive answers.
Personal Testimony: From Torment to Truth in Jesus
If you read my book, Open Your Eyes: My Supernatural Journey, you’ll know these attacks haunted me for years before I met Jesus. The church provided no guidance—I felt rejected, struggled alone, and only found hope after seeking answers for myself. Eventually, that quest led me to a radical encounter with the living Jesus, who truly set me free.
Desperate for relief, I explored new-age practices, thinking Christianity was powerless against the supernatural. Yet in time, I discovered their promises were empty—and often demonic. That’s why I wrote my book as a bait-and-switch for new-agers, hoping to draw them to the truth of Christ.
Biblical References and Spiritual Teaching: Deliverance Through Diligent Faith
Scriptural Reasons and Keys to Freedom
If you’re plagued by night terrors or supernatural attacks, there is a reason. Scripture and the Holy Spirit will reveal why. There’s always an open door—a legal entry point the enemy exploits. But, crucially, there is victory in Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Diligence is required. Deliverance usually isn’t passive—it requires persistent seeking, like the woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:43–48). She pressed through the crowd, spent all she had, and with unwavering faith, she touched Jesus’ garment for healing. You must pursue Jesus with the same determination.
Counterfeits abound. Plenty of slick teachers, "spiritual advisors," and new-age gurus will offer solutions—for a price. But their answers are ultimately demonic counterfeits that ensnare and deceive. Christ alone delivers genuine freedom.
Key Scripture Meditations for Deliverance
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7 KJV).
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6 KJV).
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5 KJV).
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me (John 10:27 KJV).
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21 KJV).
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13 KJV).
Notice the supernatural thread—the necessity not only of belief and prayer, but of actively partnering with the Spirit of God in faith, fasting, and obedience. Easy prayers won’t cut it for deep-rooted supernatural problems; spiritual warfare demands spiritual tenacity.
How Faith Operates: More Than Lip Service
True faith isn’t just mental assent—it’s belief with action. James lays it out plainly:
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone (James 2:17 KJV).
If the word of God is alive in us, fruit will follow. Jesus said, "Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46 KJV). Believing Jesus requires acting on his words—seeking him, obeying, and persevering through adversity.
Mere religious habits or confiding in others won’t suffice. Paul’s own journey shows how expert mentorship and religious scholarship, without the Spirit, can lead to spiritual blindness. Only an encounter with Christ turns information into living revelation.
Personal Reflections: Why This Matters and What I’ve Learned
I’ve been through the wringer with night terrors and supernatural attacks. For years, I was tormented by entities that paralyzed, suffocated, and harassed me—experiences chronicled in my book. The church’s silence left me grasping for answers anywhere I could find them. Eventually, desperation forced me to seek Jesus with diligence, faith, and an unrelenting hunger. Only through persistent pursuit did deliverance finally come.
I want you to know: every struggle is an invitation to deeper relationship with Jesus. The spiritual realm is real, and believers must become "diligent seekers" if we hope to walk in supernatural freedom.
Practical Takeaways from Years of Spiritual Warfare
Supernatural attacks aren’t rare—they’re just rarely admitted. If you’re suffering, you are not alone. Thousands battle in silence, afraid of being labeled crazy or unspiritual.
The enemy exploits ignorance and open doors. Spiritual affliction often enters through unaddressed sin, occult involvement, generational strongholds, or unforgiveness. Self-examination and repentance are vital steps.
Deliverance is attainable—but usually requires persistence. Like the woman with the issue of blood, breakthrough comes via relentless seeking, prayer, fasting, and obedience.
Don’t be seduced by counterfeits. The new-age promises relief but leads to deeper bondage. The answer is (and always will be) found in the biblical Jesus.
Build faith through Scripture and Spirit-led prayer. Meditate on key verses, ask God for wisdom and revelation, and trust him to guide you into freedom.

Jesus Confronts Darkness with Power
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36 KJV).
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17-18 KJV).
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony (Revelation 12:11 KJV).
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel (Psalm 22:3 KJV).
Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2 KJV).
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12 KJV).
If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:31–32 KJV).
Key truths: Deliverance and healing are normal Christianity. Testimony defeats shame and exposes the enemy. Worship invites the King and drives out darkness. True freedom comes not from mere information, but abiding, obeying, and encountering Jesus in Spirit and truth.
Conclusion and Call to Action: Dig Deeper, Go Higher, Find Freedom
Believers, it’s time to tear down the walls of silence, shame, and confusion surrounding the supernatural. Night terrors, demonic attacks, and spiritual warfare are real—and so is the power of Jesus to deliver you. Stop waiting for easy answers or magical solutions. Get desperate for God. Pursue Jesus with diligence, fasting, and passionate prayer. Seek wisdom in scripture, repent of open doors, and invite the Holy Spirit to guide you step by step into victory.
We live in a noisy, distracted world hungry for authentic spiritual answers. The true prophetic church isn’t found in isolated groups, but in courageous believers living out faith—and sharing victorious testimonies—on the front lines.
If you’re suffering, know this: you are not alone. Jesus sees you, loves you, and is inviting you into supernatural freedom.
Till we meet again—dig deeper, go higher, and take Jesus to the streets. The gates of hell won’t prevail.

A personal reflection on the supernatural reality of our faith and the power we have in Jesus.
Introduction: Have You Felt It Too?
Lately, something has been stirring. I don't know if you've felt it, but the spiritual atmosphere has been heavy. Just the other day, my phone and email started blowing up. It was a wave of messages from people all over, experiencing a similar thing: intense demonic attacks. It felt coordinated, a worldwide onslaught. This isn't the first time I've seen this. I remember back in 2013, there was a widespread attack from those suffocating spirits—the kind that try to press down on you in your sleep. It’s a terrifying experience, and it shows that the enemy is real and active.
This recent wave of activity confirms what many of us who walk in the supernatural realm already know: the devil is on the warpath. It seems when things get dark, people remember the guy who talks about the supernatural Christian walk. And that's okay. I'm here for it. Because if you're a Christian, you're in a fight. That's what we're going to dive into today—the reality of this spiritual warfare and, more importantly, how you can stand firm and win.
Main Message: Understanding the Enemy's Strategy
So what’s going on? Why the sudden increase in attacks? First, we need to understand that Satan launches his assaults in seasons. He looks for what the Bible calls an "opportune time" (Luke 4:13). He's not an all-powerful being; he’s an opportunist. He's also a legalist. He's always looking for a "legal right" to be in your life, your home, and your mind. He’s looking for permission.
This permission can come in many forms. It’s not always as obvious as a Ouija board or tarot cards. I’ve seen people have issues because of things like a lava rock brought back from a vacation in Hawaii, unknowingly bringing a connection to the goddess Pele into their home. Even seemingly innocent items like Easter bunnies have pagan roots tied to the demonic entity Ishtar. The key is to be vigilant. This isn't about living in fear; it's about living in awareness. It's about taking spiritual authority over your environment.
Another sign of demonic activity I've noticed is people acting completely out of character, especially on social media. When logic goes out the window, when two plus two clearly equals four but someone is adamantly arguing that it's five, there’s often a spiritual root. It could be an idol in their heart or a demonic influence clouding their judgment. These are signs for us to pray, not to judge. We must remember that our battle isn’t with the person but with the spiritual forces influencing them.
Personal Reflections: My Own Encounters with the Warpath
I wouldn't be talking about this if I hadn't walked through it myself. I’ve had those nights where that suffocating spirit shows up, trying to cause panic. The goal is fear. If he can get you to fear, he can paralyze your faith. But the Spirit of God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
It’s in these moments of intense spiritual pressure that our theology gets tested. It’s one thing to read about spiritual warfare in a book; it’s another thing entirely to live it. When you’re in the thick of it, when you’re resisting, when you're fighting the good fight of faith, the scriptures come alive in a way they never could through simple academic study. You start to understand your authority on a whole new level. You realize that the power of Jesus that lives in you is infinitely greater than any power that comes against you. This is where the prophetic anointing becomes so crucial—discerning the spirits and knowing how to respond based on the Holy Spirit's leading, not carnal reasoning.
I’ve found that the enemy’s attacks are often a sign that you are a threat to his kingdom. He doesn’t waste his time on those who are ineffective. So if you’re facing a fiery trial, take heart. It’s an opportunity for you to rise up and see the power of God demonstrated in your life in a new and profound way.
Biblical Teachings: Your Playbook for Spiritual Victory
The Bible is our ultimate guide for this warfare. It's not a dusty old book; it's a living, active, supernatural sword. Let’s look at our key scriptures for this fight.
Be Vigilant and Resist
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
— 1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)
Notice the language here. "Seeking whom he may devour." This implies he needs permission. Our job is to be "vigilant"—proactively removing anything that gives him that permission. And we are to "resist steadfast in the faith." This isn't a passive stance. It’s an active fight. Sometimes the battle is prolonged. It tests your faith, but you must remain steadfast.
Submit to God's Authority
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
— James 4:7 (KJV)
The order here is critical. Submission to God comes *before* resisting the devil. When we are submitted to God, we are under His umbrella of protection and authority. When we are fighting God, living in disobedience, it's like we're stepping out from under that protection and inviting trouble.
Give No Place to the Devil
“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.”
— Ephesians 4:26-27 (KJV)
Anger, unforgiveness, and resentment are open doors. Matthew 18 makes it clear that if we don't forgive others from our hearts, we are turned over to the tormentors. Forgiveness is a non-negotiable hallmark of the Christian faith and a critical key to spiritual freedom.
Wield the Full Armor of God
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
— Ephesians 6:12-13 (KJV)
This is a spiritual battle that requires spiritual weapons. Our fight is not with people. It’s with the demonic principalities that influence them. We must have on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit. This armor is not optional; it's essential for every believer, every single day.
It's Time to Rise Up
So, when you feel that pressure, when things don't make sense, when you're facing a fiery trial, don't find it strange. This is part of the Christian walk. The popular message that Christianity is a life of ease is a dangerous lie. It’s a good fight, and it’s a fight we are equipped to win.
Remember, you cannot win a spiritual battle with a carnal mind. You have to get into the spirit. Worship, pray, read the Word, and connect with the source of all power—Jesus Christ. When you are in the spirit, you have access to the mind of Christ. You receive supernatural revelation and strategy. The Holy Spirit will give you the words to speak in the hour of trial (Mark 13:11).
You have been given authority. Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18), and that same Jesus lives in you. It's time for the church to rise up, to stop being afraid of the supernatural, and to walk in the power and authority we have been given. These attacks are an opportunity for us to shine brighter and to demonstrate the reality of our God.
I want to pray for you right now:
Father God, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for every single person reading this. I declare that you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind. I pray that you would open their spiritual eyes to the authority they carry as your children. When they work in the field, meet them in the field. Empower them to do Your will, and let them experience divine encounters and supernatural revelations that can only come from You. Blow their minds, Father, with your goodness and your power. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

Welcome back to the blog. It's Conrad from ConradRocks.Net, and my passion, as always, is to bring Jesus to your face and help you cultivate a real, spiritual relationship with the biblical Jesus.
This topic became so pressing that I dedicated a three-part "Coffee with Conrad" interview series to it with my friend, Pastor Bob Strachan of Scotland Baptist, all the way from his church in Jedburgh, Scotland. In our final, concluding interview, we peeled back the layers of this cultural craze to expose the deeply spiritual and prophetic issues at its core. Today, I want to share the heart of that conversation with you. This isn't just about a game; it's about spiritual discernment, the reality of demonic influence, and the battle for the mind of every Christian in these last days.
The Elephant in the Room: Can Christians Be Touched by the Demonic?
One of the first lines of defense I hear from well-meaning believers is, "Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4, KJV). And to that, I say a hearty Amen! But does this mean we are magically immune to the influence, affliction, and temptations of the enemy? Is our salvation a force field that absolves us of the need for vigilance?
As Pastor Bob so powerfully articulated in our talk, the Bible paints a very different picture. The scriptures are filled with warnings, not to the world, but to us—the believers.
Paul warns Timothy, "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" (1 Timothy 4:1, KJV). Notice who is giving heed? Not the unsaved, but those who are departing from the faith. This implies that Christians can, in fact, listen to and be led astray by these spirits.
The battleground is clearly the mind. Paul feared for the Corinthian believers: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:3, KJV). He speaks of receiving "another spirit," which shows it’s a possibility for the church.
Think about the examples Pastor Bob raised:
Satan was given permission to sift Peter like wheat.
Job was afflicted directly by the enemy.
Paul himself was given a "messenger of Satan to buffet him."
And perhaps the most compelling example is the one from Luke 13, where Jesus heals a woman who had a "spirit of infirmity" for eighteen years. What did Jesus call her? "A daughter of Abraham." In the language of faith, she was a saved woman, a child of God, yet she was physically afflicted by a demonic spirit. This is a clear, undeniable biblical precedent. Christians are not immune; we are targets. This is why Peter urges us, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8, KJV).
"All Things Are Permissible" - A Christian's License for Anything?
Another common rebuttal I've encountered is the misuse of Paul's words, "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient" (1 Corinthians 6:12, KJV). People cherry-pick the first part to justify their actions, suggesting a blanket permission for any activity not explicitly forbidden in the New Testament.
Pastor Bob dismantled this argument with a sharp and brilliant point. He asked, is bestiality permissible? It’s not mentioned in the New Testament. Of course not! God’s moral law, His definition of sin and abomination, does not change with the covenant. Sin is still sin.
But the scripture doesn't end there. Paul goes on to say, "But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils" (1 Corinthians 10:20, KJV).
The idol isn't the problem; the demonic entity that receives the worship and attention behind the idol is the problem. As Pastor Bob explained, a demon is more than happy to step in and receive the focus and energy you're directing toward that "harmless" object. Your phone, in this case, becomes a conduit—a modern-day idol.
This resonated so deeply with my spirit. I thought about the history of the kings of Israel. Over and over, the Bible records that a new king "did that which was right in the sight of the Lord," but with a devastating caveat: "howbeit the high places were not taken away" (2 Kings 12:2-3, KJV). Why did they leave them? I believe it was fear. Fear of retaliation, fear of upsetting the people, fear of being seen as extreme. They were unwilling to go all the way for God, and that compromise left a doorway open for sin to re-enter the nation. We face the same choice today when we tolerate "high places" in our own lives.
The Prophetic Warning of a "Harmless" Game
What really struck me during our conversation was the prophetic nature of this entire phenomenon. Pastor Bob pointed out that the "high places" were never really removed from society; they just changed form. And now, through technology, they are being invited directly into our homes and churches.
When I considered the level of access people willingly gave this game—contacts, camera, location, personal data—I felt a chill. It’s a conditioning. People are being prepped to trade privacy, liberty, and discernment for entertainment and convenience. How much more willing will they be to accept a system that controls their ability to buy and sell just so they can eat? These games are, in my view, a small taste, a prophetic shadow of the coming Antichrist system. They are prepping people to accept the supernatural as normal and to give up everything to participate.
A Call to Spiritual Warfare: How Should We Then Respond?
So, if we're convicted by the Holy Spirit to remove these influences from our lives, how do we approach our friends and family who are still involved? This is where the rubber meets the road.
The wrong way, as Pastor Bob warned, is to get on social media and start blasting everyone who disagrees with you. How long did it take for God to bring you to this point of understanding? It was likely a process. You cannot expect to deprogram someone from a lifetime of cultural conditioning with a single, angry Facebook post.
This is about relationship and trust. Jesus’s words about the beam and the splinter are key: "first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" (Matthew 7:5, KJV). Interestingly, the Greek word for "cast out" is ekballo, the same word Jesus uses for casting out demons. We must first deal with the demonic influences and strongholds in our own lives. Then, with gentleness, compassion, and trust that we’ve built, we can help our brothers and sisters.
A Word to Pastors: Don't Invite the Enemy to Church
Do not be naive. The devil is not afraid to walk into a church building. A demon-possessed man cried out right in the middle of the synagogue while Jesus was teaching! (Mark 1:23). If your church is on fire for God, you are a target. Satan will use any method he can, including a "harmless" game, to infiltrate, disrupt, and destroy your ministry from the inside out. Better to lose a few members who are committed to the world than to lose the presence and power of God in your services.
This requires courage. It requires you to be different. It requires you to examine everything—every game, every movie, every tradition—and ask: Does this glorify Jesus? Are its roots godly? Am I giving place to the devil?
If you've been involved in this or other questionable activities, the path forward is clear. Repent. But don't just stop playing. As Pastor Bob urged, destroy these things. Burn them. Delete them. Don't pass the curse on to someone else by giving it away. Close the door firmly and command Satan to leave your life in the mighty name of Jesus.
This is not about legalism; it's about holiness. It's not about fear; it's about walking in the authority and power that Christ has given us.

The Imaginary and the Real: Discerning Spiritual Implications
One of the key questions that arose in our conversation was whether we were making a leap from something imaginary to something potentially harmful on a spiritual level. Are these just harmless characters in a game, or could there be deeper implications? Bob wisely pointed out that just because these creatures aren’t named after demons doesn’t automatically make them good or neutral.
This got me thinking about the concept of "vain imaginations" mentioned in the Bible. If we’re constantly engaging with something that, at its core, is a fantasy, could it be subtly shaping our thoughts and values in ways that pull us away from the knowledge of God? The Apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV), urges us to cast down "imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." This verse really resonates here. It's not just about blatant evil; sometimes, it's the seemingly innocent things that can capture our minds and hearts.
The Bible speaks of the spirit of bondage (Romans 8:15, KJV), and it contrasts this with the spirit of adoption we receive through Christ, which allows us to call God "Abba, Father." When we find ourselves constantly drawn back to something, feeling an almost irresistible urge, we need to ask ourselves: Is this leading me closer to God or further away? Is it fostering freedom or bondage?
This also connects to the influence of media in general. Bob astutely pointed out the correlation between the rise of Hollywood and the decline in teachings on spiritual warfare in churches. It's as if the enemy has subtly shifted tactics, using entertainment and media to shape worldviews and distract people from the reality of spiritual battles. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV), "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." However, sadly, many believers today seem unaware of these subtle yet powerful influences.
The Seared Conscience and the Importance of Truth
Bob then referenced 1 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJV): "Now the spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron." This scripture powerfully illustrates what can happen when we repeatedly ignore or rationalize things that are contrary to God's Word. Our consciences can become desensitized, making it harder to discern right from wrong.
These kinds of experiences remind us that the spiritual realm is real, even if we don't always see it with our physical eyes. Ephesians 6:12 (KJV) reminds us, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." We need to be aware of these forces and how they might try to influence our lives and the lives of our loved ones.
Redeeming the Time: Prioritizing the Kingdom of God
Ultimately, our conversation circled back to the importance of redeeming the time, as Paul urged in Ephesians 5:15-16 (KJV): "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil." How much time are we spending on things that have no eternal value? How much time are we investing in our relationship with God, in studying His Word, and in sharing the Gospel with others?

Stop Chasing Pokemons, Start Chasing Jesus: A Christian Perspective on the Pokemon Go Epidemic
Today, we're diving into a topic that took the world by storm a few years back – the Pokemon Go phenomenon – and examining it through a Christian lens. Some of you might remember a podcast I did with Pastor Bob Strachan from Scotland Baptist, where we discussed the subtle yet pervasive influences of paganism in Christianity. If you haven't had a listen, I highly recommend you dig into the archives here on the site. It was an eye-opening conversation, touching on some truly spiritual matters.
The Pokemon Go Craze: A Look Back
Then came Pokemon Go. Suddenly, it seemed like the entire planet was glued to their smartphones, wandering around in search of these digital creatures. Remember that? It was quite a spectacle! People were out in droves, exploring their neighborhoods in a way they hadn't before, all in the pursuit of catching 'em all.
I recently had the privilege of reconnecting with Pastor Bob Strachan to get his prophetic insights on this whole Pokemon Go situation. Our conversation, which I’m thrilled to share with you today in blog post form, really shed light on some crucial aspects that Christians should consider. Pastor Bob, joining me all the way from Jedburgh Baptist in Scotland, brought his characteristically insightful and biblically grounded perspective to the table.
For those unfamiliar with Pastor Bob's ministry, I encourage you to check out ScotlandBaptist.com. His website is a treasure trove of biblically sound teachings, tackling topics many shy away from, including spiritual warfare and the discernment of pagan influences in our modern world. He also runs Little Flock Radio.com, a 24/7 gospel music and Bible teaching online radio station – a fantastic resource for anyone seeking to deepen their faith.
Pastor Bob’s mission is clear: to teach and equip the body of Christ. As he eloquently put it, while soul-winning is paramount, teaching those who are won how to also win others is exponentially more impactful. His heart is to see believers grounded in biblical truth, shying away from the fleeting trends of modernism and returning to the foundational teachings of the Bible, mirroring the ministry of Jesus and His disciples.
When the World Goes Digital: My Initial Thoughts
Honestly, when Pokemon Go first hit the scene, my initial reaction was a mix of amusement and bewilderment. Seeing people of all ages walking around, phones in hand, eyes glued to the screen, felt a bit supernatural in its own way. On one hand, I thought, “Hey, at least they’re getting some exercise!” As Pastor Bob pointed out, there's a sliver of a silver lining in people getting off the couch and moving around, much like with geocaching.
However, the sheer intensity of the phenomenon quickly raised red flags for me. Susan and I often go for prayer walks in our neighborhood here in Brantley, Alabama, and we started noticing something peculiar: cars driving slowly down the street, occupants clearly engrossed in their phones, in areas where we'd never seen such traffic before. It was a tangible sign of how this virtual world was impacting the real one.
Then I saw a meme of a church sign – I can't recall the exact wording – but it essentially invited Pokemon Go players to take advantage of the church as a "Pokestop." While I understand the desire to connect with people and perhaps draw them in, it made me question the underlying motivation. Are we offering them Jesus, or just a chance to snag a digital creature?
The Tangible Dangers: More Than Just a Game
Pastor Bob rightly highlighted some very real physical dangers associated with Pokemon Go. We discussed news reports of people driving dangerously while playing, leading to accidents. Imagine crashing your car over a virtual monster! It sounds absurd, but it happened. People were so engrossed in their phones that they were oblivious to their surroundings, leading to falls, injuries, and even tragically, deaths. Nothing in the virtual realm holds value over a human life.
Beyond personal safety, there are also serious concerns about exploitation. The game often involves going to specific locations, and unfortunately, this opened doors for nefarious individuals. Pastor Bob, with his background in law enforcement, raised valid alarms about children being lured to isolated areas, potentially leading to muggings or worse. The camaraderie that spontaneously arose among players also presented a risk, as children might interact with strangers they would normally be cautioned against. As Christian parents, our primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of our children.
The Deeper Questions: A Biblical Examination
This brings us to the crux of the matter: should Christians be participating in Pokemon Go? What does the Bible say that can guide us in this area? I’m so glad Pastor Bob addressed this directly. Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) tells us:
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Our focus as Christian parents should be on training our children in the ways of God, not in the pursuit of virtual novelties that hold no eternal significance.
Jesus Himself, in Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV), exhorted us:
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Our time, energy, and resources should be directed towards things that have eternal value, towards furthering God's kingdom.
While I'm not suggesting we all quit our jobs and become full-time missionaries (though that’s a noble calling for some!), we need to evaluate how we spend our time. Is chasing virtual pets truly aligning with laying up treasures in heaven? These digital fads, while momentarily engaging, are often fleeting. Remember Moshi Monsters or even the Beanie Baby craze? They captured everyone's attention for a while, then faded. While Pokemon has had more staying power, the principle remains: our ultimate focus should be on the eternal, not the temporal.
Some might argue that Pokemon Go could be used as a tool for evangelism, with churches becoming "Pokestops" to attract people. However, as Pastor Bob astutely pointed out, people are coming for the Pokemon, not necessarily for the Gospel. If we lure them in with a game, we’ll likely need to keep entertaining them with worldly things. True and lasting change comes through the power of the Word of God. When people are drawn to the truth of the Gospel and experience the transformative power of Jesus, that’s what will sustain them.
Think about the story of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-22). He came to Jesus seeking eternal life, but when faced with the cost – selling his possessions and following Christ – he walked away, saddened by his great wealth. Jesus didn't chase after him; He allowed him to make his own choice. God desires hearts that willingly serve Him out of love, not by coercion or through worldly enticements.
The most powerful way we can promote Jesus is through our personal testimonies, sharing our own experiences of how He has changed our lives, coupled with the unchanging truth of the Word of God. As Mary Magdalene did after encountering the resurrected Christ, we can simply say, “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:18).
The Roots of Pokemon: A Cause for Concern?
Delving deeper, Pastor Bob explored the origins of Pokemon, tracing it back to the trading cards and video games of the mid-1990s. He drew a parallel to the intense obsession that developed around these cards, even leading to alarming incidents like a child attacking a teacher for confiscating them or another being stabbed over stolen cards. This level of fixation should give us pause.
Interestingly, Pastor Bob pointed out that the company behind Pokemon is the same one that owns Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering – games with well-documented links to the occult. While this doesn't automatically condemn Pokemon, it warrants a closer look at its underlying themes and potential influences.
Considering the words of Jesus in Luke 6:43-45 (KJV), we are called to examine the roots of things:
“For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
If the roots are questionable, can the fruit truly be good?
Many in the modern church try to use worldly methods – movie clips, superhero analogies – to connect with people and share the Gospel. While the intention might be good, we must be discerning. Are these truly the most effective and biblically sound ways to represent Christ?
Unpacking the Spiritual Implications
Pastor Bob shared some fascinating insights from an interview with Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokemon. Tajiri stated that a key element of the game's success was that the monsters are controllable by the players. He even suggested that these monsters could represent the "monster within you," like fear or anger, contained in capsules. Furthermore, players can give their Pokemon individual names, fostering a deeper attachment.
This concept of controlling creatures, even if they represent inner struggles, bears an unsettling resemblance to occult practices, specifically witchcraft, where the idea of summoning and controlling spirits exists. While I understand that on the surface, it’s just a game, we as Christians need to be aware of any underlying philosophies that might subtly shape our thinking or desensitize us to certain spiritual concepts.
The fact that these Pokemon can gain power through training and the strong emotional bonds players form with them also echoes concerns found in some false religions and cults, where entities gain influence through worship and devotion. While I’m not definitively saying that Pokemon are demonic entities, we need to exercise discernment and be mindful of the potential for unintended spiritual consequences.
Pastor Bob clarified that while some might claim all Pokemon names are derived from demons, he hasn't found conclusive evidence for this. For example, Pikachu’s name seems to be based on Japanese onomatopoeia for electric sounds and the word for mouse. However, he did note that some names do sound rather suggestive.
Conclusion: Where Does Our Allegiance Lie?
As believers, our allegiance is to Jesus Christ. Our pursuit should be Him and His Kingdom. While something like Pokemon Go might seem like harmless fun, we need to consider its potential dangers, its underlying themes, and whether it truly aligns with our calling to lay up treasures in heaven.
Let us be wise stewards of our time and resources, focusing on what truly matters for eternity. Let’s prioritize teaching our children the Word of God and living lives that reflect His love and truth. Instead of chasing virtual creatures, let's wholeheartedly chase after Jesus, the One who offers true and lasting fulfillment.

Today we're diving deep into a topic that's been weighing heavily on my heart: night terrors, demonic attacks, and sleep paralysis. As I was praying last night, unable to sleep, the Lord impressed upon me the urgency of addressing this issue. Many of you have been reaching out, sharing your experiences with these spiritual attacks, and I believe it's time we tackle this head-on.
The Reality of Spiritual Warfare
Before we go further, let me be clear: the spiritual realm is as real as the physical world we inhabit. In Ephesians 6:12, we're reminded that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." This isn't just theological theory; it's a reality I've experienced firsthand throughout my life.
In my book, "Open Your Eyes: My Supernatural Journey," I recount numerous encounters with the supernatural. One particularly vivid experience occurred when I was about five years old. A man entered my room and put his hand on my face while I was asleep. I couldn't wake up; it felt like my spirit was rushing from the bottom of the ocean to the surface. This sensation of paralysis and struggle is a common denominator in night terrors and sleep paralysis.
Understanding Night Terrors and Sleep Paralysis
What many in the secular world dismiss as mere "sleep paralysis," we in the spiritual realm recognize as genuine warfare. The etymology of the word "nightmare" itself has roots in demonic attacks. In Old English, it denoted a spirit thought to lie upon and suffocate sleepers. This aligns with many people's experiences of feeling a heavy presence on their chest, struggling to breathe or move.
During these attacks, victims often feel trapped, desperately trying to surface to consciousness. They may want to call out to Jesus but find themselves unable to speak. This paralysis is a common tactic of the enemy to instill fear and helplessness.
The Spiritual Significance of These Attacks
If you're experiencing these attacks, I want you to know something crucial: you likely have a prophetic call on your life. The enemy doesn't waste time on those who pose no threat to his kingdom. Your experiences, as terrifying as they may be, are often a sign that God has equipped you for supernatural ministry.
Remember, many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14). Your calling requires discipline, dedication, and a willingness to learn and grow in your spiritual authority.
Biblical Foundations for Overcoming
Jesus gave us clear instructions and authority when it comes to dealing with demonic forces. In Mark 16:17, He says, "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues."
The name of Jesus is powerful – just uttering it can send demons fleeing. But it's not just about saying the words; it's about walking in the authority and character of Christ.
Open Doors to the Demonic
It's crucial to understand that sometimes we unknowingly invite demonic influence into our lives. These "open doors" can make us more susceptible to spiritual attacks, including night terrors. Here are some common ways we might be opening ourselves up to demonic influence:
Ungodly Entertainment: What we watch, read, and listen to has a profound impact on our spiritual well-being.
Unforgiveness: Holding onto bitterness can give the enemy a foothold in our lives.
Occult Practices: Even seemingly harmless activities like reading horoscopes can open doors to demonic influence.
Generational Curses: Sometimes, the sins of our ancestors can have spiritual consequences that affect us.
Unrepented Sin: Persistent, unconfessed sin in our lives can create a breach in our spiritual defenses.
Negative Confessions: Our words have power. Speaking curses over ourselves or others, even in jest, can invite spiritual darkness.
Ungodly Relationships: Close associations with people deeply involved in sin or occult practices can expose us to spiritual attacks.
Practical Steps for Victory
Strengthen Your Faith: Jesus told His disciples that some demons only come out by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21). Regular prayer and fasting can increase your spiritual authority.
Guard Your Gates: Be mindful of what you allow into your life through your eyes and ears. Avoid ungodly entertainment, music, or literature that could give the enemy a foothold.
Consecrate Your Space: Just as I dedicated my music studio solely to worship, consider consecrating your living space to God. Remove any objects that could have occult associations.
Use Your Authority: When under attack, command the spirits to leave in the name of Jesus. Remember, you have been given authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).
Seek Discipleship: Find mature believers who can guide you in developing your spiritual gifts and authority.
Cultivate a Lifestyle of Worship: Make praise and worship a daily habit, not just a Sunday activity.
Personal Reflections and Experiences
Throughout my life, I've had numerous encounters with demonic forces. One particularly vivid experience involved an out-of-body encounter where I confronted a demonic presence in my home. These experiences have taught me the importance of staying vigilant and continually growing in spiritual authority.
I've learned that the more you take territory for Jesus, the bigger the spiritual battles you'll face. But remember, greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Biblical Teachings on Spiritual Warfare
The Bible is full of wisdom on spiritual warfare. Paul's teachings in Ephesians 6 about putting on the full armor of God are particularly relevant. We must stand firm in our faith, clothed in truth, righteousness, and the gospel of peace, wielding the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
Conclusion
If you're facing night terrors or demonic attacks, know that you're not alone, and more importantly, you're not powerless. God has equipped you with everything you need for victory. It's time to rise up, claim your authority in Christ, and push back against the forces of darkness.
Remember, in Christ, we are more than conquerors. Let's stand together, armed with the truth, and shine the light of Jesus into the darkest corners of the spiritual realm.
