Christ's Teachings vs. Modern Christian Behavior: A Personal Reflection

Observing Christians

In today's digital age, I often find myself observing the behavior of fellow Christians online. It's disheartening to see a stark contrast between the teachings of Christ and the actions of some Christians. This post is a personal reflection on this disparity and a call to embody the true spirit of Christianity.

Christ's Compassion vs. Our Quick Judgement

Christ's compassion was unparalleled. Even in His final moments on the cross, He prayed for those who were crucifying Him (Luke 23:34). Yet, it's alarming to see Christians today quick to judge and hate those who oppose them. The essence of Christ's teachings was love and forgiveness, not hatred.

Christ's Outreach to Sinners vs. Our Rejection

Christ reached out to sinners, not to condemn them, but to save them (Luke 7:34). Today, it's disconcerting to see Christians shunning sinners instead of extending a helping hand. We must remember that our mission, like Christ's, is to guide the lost, not to ostracize them.

Christ's Defense of the Weak vs. Our Indifference

Christ risked His ministry to defend a woman accused of adultery (John 8). In contrast, it's common to see Christians today gossiping about others' mistakes instead of standing up for them. We are called to love and protect, not to judge and condemn.

Christ's Healing Touch vs. Our Fear

Christ healed the sick wherever He went. Today, many Christians avoid the sick, fearing they might fall ill themselves. We are called to visit the sick and those in prison (Matthew 25:32-46), to bring them hope and comfort.

Christ's Tireless Preaching vs. Our Silence

Christ traveled far and wide, on foot, to spread the Gospel. Yet, many Christians today hesitate to share their faith with their neighbors, fearing embarrassment. We must remember Luke 9:26 and not be ashamed of Christ and His words.

The term "Christian" means "Christ-like". But are we truly living up to this name? As Mahatma Gandhi once said, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Before we identify ourselves as Christians, let's reflect on whether we bear the same fruit as Christ (Matthew 7:20). This post is a reminder for me as much as it is for you. I welcome your prayers as we strive to live more like Christ every day.

*Note: This post is a personal reflection and is not intended to judge or condemn anyone. It's a call to self-examination and spiritual growth.*

  2. So true! I've never encountered so much Christian hate as I have on the internet. They preach about love one minute, while they gossip and slander the next! Good message bro!

  4. Thanks for the comments!

JB - Loving our neighbor is a pillar of the Christian faith. We need to examine ourselves and see if we are in fact walking in that precept. Thank you.

Penelope - Yes, there does seem to be a double standard. I was very convicted about this post myself. Will i ever get there? lol

Stephen Barrett - Thank you kind sir. I pretty much just said what a lot of people are already thinking!

  5. Agree. When we get mean, we don't look like Jesus.

  7. I grow weary of all the Christian bashing that goes on. We are an easy target. I believe the truth is that most Christians are trying to be like Christ. Unfortunately there is a loud minority of self ascribed "christians" who do not really represent Christianity but, because they claim it, people point to them to define Christians. The reality may be closer to the fact that real Christians are not as loud; not drowning our these impersonators with their own acts of love. LOVE LOUD!

  8. Great post! I think there are a lot of Christians who forget that Christianity is not about Me, Myself and I. I learned a new life motto at a ministry that goes like this: GOD first, YOU second, ME third!
