Christ versus Christians

The difference between Christ and Christians

I have been noticing
the tone of Christians on the internet and how much they dislike people that aren’t like them.

My thought is how much they are unlike Christ.

Jesus prayed for those that were driving the nails into his hands and crucifying Him.  (Luke 23:34).  Yet many Christians are quick to hate those who oppose them in any way.  Praying is the last thing on their minds.

Jesus fellowshipped with sinners to save them from hell (Luke 7:34).  Many Christians today despise sinners, and reject them outright. They leave it to the radical to preach to the lost, while they remain cozy before TBN.

Jesus jeopardized His ministry to save a girl who had committed adultery (John 8).  Many Christians gossip and backbite about adulterers and by no means rise up to defend them!

Jesus went about the cities and synagogues healing the sick. Many  Christians today avoid the sick like the plague!  Fearing they may get sick themselves, not going about doing good as Jesus did.  Christians are supposed to visit the sick and those in prison according to Matthew 25:32-46.

Jesus traveled many miles on foot to preach the gospel to sinners.  Many Christians today don’t even bother to ask their next door neighbors if they know Jesus.  They don’t want to be embarrassed.

Luk 9:26  For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his own glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels.

Christian means “Christ Like”.  That phrase is used too loosely today.

Gandhi comes to mind here:

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” - Mohandas Gandhi

Before we call ourselves or anyone else Christians, we need to examine ourselves if we bear the same fruit as Christ.

Mat 7:20  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

PS..  This post convicts me very much.  I covet your prayers.

  2. So true! I've never encountered so much Christian hate as I have on the internet. They preach about love one minute, while they gossip and slander the next! Good message bro!

  4. Thanks for the comments!

JB - Loving our neighbor is a pillar of the Christian faith. We need to examine ourselves and see if we are in fact walking in that precept. Thank you.

Penelope - Yes, there does seem to be a double standard. I was very convicted about this post myself. Will i ever get there? lol

Stephen Barrett - Thank you kind sir. I pretty much just said what a lot of people are already thinking!

  7. I grow weary of all the Christian bashing that goes on. We are an easy target. I believe the truth is that most Christians are trying to be like Christ. Unfortunately there is a loud minority of self ascribed "christians" who do not really represent Christianity but, because they claim it, people point to them to define Christians. The reality may be closer to the fact that real Christians are not as loud; not drowning our these impersonators with their own acts of love. LOVE LOUD!

  8. Great post! I think there are a lot of Christians who forget that Christianity is not about Me, Myself and I. I learned a new life motto at a ministry that goes like this: GOD first, YOU second, ME third!
