Happy Today, Uncertain Tomorrow? The Fight for Our Children's Future
Happy Today, Uncertain Tomorrow? The Fight for Our Children’s Future
Walking out of Target today, I was struck by a sight that stopped my racing thoughts in their tracks. A young girl was marching toward the entrance with her father, sporting a smile that could only be described as magical. She was wearing a pair of oversized boots—clearly a brand-new treasure—and she wasn't just walking; she was dancing.
In her mind, she was likely a queen or a mythical hero. To the world, she was the picture of pure, unadulterated joy. It was the kind of confidence that only flourishes in the soil of a parent’s love.
I couldn’t help but crack a smile as I headed toward my car. There is something about the innocent "Happy Today" of a child that briefly masks the "Uncertain Tomorrow" we all feel looming.
The Weight of Our Legacy
By the time I reached my car door, that smile had faded into a heavy realization. I found myself asking a hard question: What kind of future are we actually handing to these children?
You don’t have to be a prophet to see the storm clouds on the horizon. We live in a world where the foundations are being shaken, and as a generation, we are the stewards of the world they will one day inherit. If we claim to love our children, shouldn't our actions be the primary evidence of that love?
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 13:22, "A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children." While we often think of this in terms of money or land, the most vital inheritance is a world where they have the freedom to live, to thrive, and to worship.
Three Questions for the Next Thirty Years
I looked back at that little girl in the boots and wondered what her life would look like in thirty years. As I ponder the future of our nation and our faith, three questions haunt me:
- Will she hear the Gospel? Will we leave behind a culture that still prizes the Truth, or will the "still small voice" be drowned out by the noise of a secular age?
- Will she live in an America where the wicked reign? We are warned in Proverbs 29:2, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." Are we doing the work today to ensure she doesn't live in a season of mourning?
- Will the name of Jesus be legal in her future? It sounds radical, but we must fight to preserve the religious liberties that allow the next generation to call upon His name without fear of the state.
A Call to Action
Love isn't just a feeling; it’s a battlefield. To love our children is to fight for their future. This means being intentional with our votes, our voices, and our daily prayers. We cannot be content with their "Happy Today" if we are not willing to secure their "Tomorrow."
Let’s stop merely observing the innocence of children and start defending it.
Action Items to Inspire Your Week:
- Identify One Legacy Goal: Write down one spiritual or practical value you want to "hand down" to the next generation this month.
- Pray with Specificity: This week, pray specifically for the religious freedoms of the children in your community.
- Audit Your Influence: Look at your social media or blog output—is it contributing to a "Better Future," or just adding to the noise?
