WorldWide Deception - Cultivating Discernment for Our Times

What if the whole world was being deceived and you were the only one who knew the truth? Have you ever actually felt like that? It is a heavy, isolating feeling. You are standing in a room, and everyone is nodding along to a lie, and your spirit is screaming, "No, that is not right!" But because the lie is popular, because it is comfortable, or because it is being pushed by someone with a lot of initials after their name, you are the one who ends up looking like the crazy person.

I remember moments like that back in the 70s and 80s. This was long before we had a supercomputer in our pockets. Back then, if you wanted to know something, you had to go find a book. You had to spend hours in a library, smelling that old paper and dust, tracking down footnotes. I was always a curious kid—I loved to read, and I realized early on that knowledge was power.

I remember being in a room where a specific argument was being made. Everyone else was in total agreement, but I had done the legwork. I knew the facts. I had to stand my ground while I was ridiculed and embarrassed. There was this intense pressure to just "go along to get along." My feet were put to the fire, but I couldn't betray the truth. I knew that holding on to what was real was far more important than seeking the approval of man.

Those little trials of mine were small, but they point to a much larger, more dangerous reality we are facing today. We are living in a "post-truth" era where spiritual deception isn't just a possibility; it is an onslaught. If we aren't "bibled up" and walking lockstep with the Holy Spirit, we are going to get swept away by the crowd. Today, we’re going to look at how to stand firm when the world—and even the church—is buying into the lie.

Introduction: The Fiery Trial of Truth

Welcome, welcome, welcome to another edition of Coffee with Conrad. I’m your host, Conrad, from ConradRocks.net, where we share rocks of revelation to help you dig deeper and go higher in your walk with the King. My passion is for you to have a genuine, supernatural relationship with the biblical Jesus. But part of that relationship is developing a sharp sense of discernment.

If you’ve read my book, OPEN YOUR EYES: MY SUPERNATURAL JOURNEY, you know that I’ve seen both sides of the coin. I’ve seen the darkness and the light. I know how convincing a lie can feel when it’s wrapped in a "spiritual" package.

Think about the three Hebrew boys: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. I want you to really put yourself in their sandals for a second. Picture the scene: a massive plain in the province of Babylon. The sun is beating down, and in the center of it all is this towering, 90-foot statue of gold. King Nebuchadnezzar has issued a decree: when the music plays, everyone—and I mean everyone—bows.

The music starts—the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer. A sea of people hits the ground. Thousands upon thousands of people are prostrating themselves before an idol. And there stand three young men. They aren't moving. Can you imagine the awkwardness? The people next to them probably hissed, "Just bend your knees! It’s just a ceremony! Do you want to die?"

But they stayed upright. They chose the fire of the furnace over the comfort of the lie. They knew that their unswerving fidelity to the truth was the only thing that mattered. Because they stood, an entire nation eventually learned that the God of Israel was alive and well. As we navigate this post-truth culture, we have to ask ourselves: are we willing to stand when everyone else is bowing?

Deception in the Last Days

The Bible doesn't mince words when it comes to the end times. Jesus Himself gave us a chilling warning in the Olivet Discourse. He said, For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:24 KJV).

Think about that. "The very elect." These aren't people who don't know the Bible; these are people who are supposedly close to God. And what is the tool of deception? It isn't just bad logic; it's signs and wonders. It’s apparent miracles. It’s compelling stories that tickle our ears and appeal to our pride.

The Post-Truth Era by the Numbers

We often talk about "deception" as some abstract thing, but we can see it manifesting in the statistics of our society. Look at the shifts over the last few decades. In 1930, about 70 percent of Americans attended church monthly. By 2021, that number had plummeted to 36 percent.

But here is the real kicker: in the 1970s, over 40 percent of people viewed the Bible as the literal Word of God. Today? It’s down to 24 percent. When you lose the anchor of the Word, you start drifting. We’ve seen the divorce rate double since 1960. We see a rise in the acceptance of things the Bible clearly calls sin—abortion, cohabitation, relative morality.

About 75 percent of Americans now view morality as relative. This means truth is no longer an objective rock; it’s a subjective cloud that changes based on how you feel on a Tuesday morning. This is exactly what the prophet Isaiah warned about: Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20 KJV).

You see it in the commercials during a football game. You see it in the "progressive" theology being taught from pulpits that have traded the Gospel for social approval. It is a never-ending onslaught of compromise.

The Enemy Within: Wolves in the Flock

Most of us expect deception to come from "out there"—from the world, from secular humanism, or from Hollywood. And while it certainly does come from those places, the more dangerous deception often comes from "in here."

The Apostle Paul warned the elders at Ephesus about this very thing. He said, For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them (Acts 20:29-30 KJV).

These deceptive leaders come from within the Christian community. They use Christian vocabulary. They talk about "Jesus" and "the Spirit," but they are drawing people away from the narrow path. Paul told the Corinthians that these people are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:13-14 KJV).

I remember during my time in the New Age, there was a lot of talk about "beings of light." They seemed so pious, so peaceful, so "spiritual." But they were a counterfeit. Deception doesn't always look ugly. Often, it looks beautiful. It looks like "Ministers of Righteousness." This is why we can't be swayed by how many followers someone has on social media or how charismatic they are. If they aren't aligned with the Word, they are a danger to your soul.

The Whole World Can Be Wrong

It is a common logical fallacy to believe that if everyone believes something, it must be true. But history is littered with hoaxes that fooled the "experts" and the masses for decades.

Take the Piltdown Man. In 1912, an amateur archaeologist claimed to have found the "missing link" between apes and humans in England. For 40 years, this was taught as absolute scientific fact. It was in the science textbooks. It was heralded in museums. But in 1953, it was proven to be an elaborate fraud. The bones had been artificially treated to look old. Even the "experts" were deceived because they wanted to believe the lie.

Then there is the Loch Ness Monster. Remember that famous 1934 photograph? People spent millions of dollars and decades of their lives trying to find that creature based on a "compelling image." It wasn't until 1994 that a man confessed it was a toy submarine with a fake head.

And don't get me started on crop circles. People were convinced these were supernatural signs from aliens. I saw the documentaries. People were having "spiritual experiences" in those fields. Then it turned out to be a couple of guys with planks and ropes.

If scientists and the general public can be fooled by toy submarines and wooden planks, how much more can we be fooled by spiritual deception if we don't have the Holy Spirit? Today, with artificial intelligence, we can create videos that look 100 percent real but are total fabrications. We are entering a time where you truly cannot believe your own eyes—unless those eyes are fixed on Jesus.

Personal Reflections: My Journey from Deception

When I talk about these things, I’m not coming from a place of "holier than thou." I’m coming from a place of "I’ve been there." Before I was born again, I was deep into the supernatural side of the New Age. I experienced astral projection, telekinesis, and demonic encounters. I thought I was finding "enlightenment."

But the "light" I was following was the "angel of light" Paul warned about. It was a counterfeit that led to night terrors and spiritual bondage. If you’re struggling with those kinds of attacks, I wrote a book specifically for that called Overcoming Night Terror: Making the Demons Leave. I had to learn the hard way that just because something is "supernatural" doesn't mean it’s from God.

Jesus corrected me by bringing me to the Word. He showed me that truth isn't a feeling; it’s a Person, and that Person is revealed through the Scriptures. I had to learn to be a "Berean." The Bereans were commended because they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so (Acts 17:11 KJV).

They didn't even take Paul's word for it at face value! They checked him against the Bible. We need to have that same healthy skepticism. If a famous TV preacher says something that sounds hip and new, but it contradicts the core principles of Jesus Christ, you need to toss it in the trash.

Biblical References: The Sword of the Spirit

We have to understand that the Word of God is our only effective self-defense against false doctrine. It isn't just a book of nice stories; it is a spiritual weapon.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12 KJV).

When you are "worded up," the Bible acts as a filter. It separates the "soulish" stuff—our emotions, our desires, our desire for popularity—from the things of the Spirit. False teachers love to exploit our vulnerabilities. They tell you that God wants you to be rich, or that sin isn't really sin, or that there are many paths to heaven. They use "feigned words" to make merchandise of you, as Peter warned in 2 Peter 2:3.

But when you know the Truth, the lie loses its power. Jesus said, And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32 KJV). Freedom doesn't come from following a crowd; it comes from following the King.

In 2 Thessalonians, Paul gives a terrifying warning about those who refuse to love the truth. He says, And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness (2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 KJV).

There comes a point where, if you repeatedly reject the truth because you prefer the lie, God will let you have what you want. He gives space to repent, but time is not infinite. We must choose to love the truth now, even when it costs us our social standing or our comfort.

Key Takeaways

  • Satan is the Deceiver of the Whole World: Revelation 12:9 makes it clear that the enemy's primary job is to mislead humanity. We are the targets of a global disinformation campaign.
  • Signs and Wonders Can Be Deceptive: Miracles don't always prove someone is from God. Even the elect can be fooled by lying wonders if they aren't discerning the fruit of the teacher.
  • Biblical Literacy is Self-Defense: If you don't know what the Bible says, you have no way to test the claims of "experts" or popular leaders.
  • Wolves Arise from Within: Expect deception to come from within the church community, often disguised as "light" or "righteousness."
  • Walk by Faith, Not Sight: Compelling images and popular arguments are often hoaxes. Our anchor must be the unchanging Word of God.

Conclusion and Call to Action

Spiritual deception is running rampant, but we serve the God of Truth. Jesus is the light that guides us through the darkness of this post-truth era. My prayer is that this has brought some sobering awareness to your heart, along with the empowering wisdom you need to stand firm.

We have to fix our eyes firmly on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. We need to continue growing in our biblical literacy and our spirit-led discernment. The stakes are eternal, people. The battle in the heavenly realms is spilling over onto planet Earth, and we need to be ready.

If you found this helpful, I encourage you to check out a prior episode I did called "Aliens or Demons: Unmasking the Deception." It dives deeper into how supposed alien encounters often show striking similarities to the demonic manifestations recorded in Scripture. You can find that and many other resources at ConradRocks.net.

Please share this post with your friends and family on social media. We need to get the truth out there!

Until we meet again, dig deeper and go higher. God bless you.

Action Items

  • Commit to Daily Scripture Reading: Treat the Bible like food. You wouldn't go a week without eating; don't go a day without the Word.
  • Test Every Teaching: Whenever you hear a sermon or read a spiritual book, ask, "Does this align with the KJV Bible?" Use the Berean method.
  • Pray for Discernment: Ask the Holy Spirit daily to give you eyes to see and ears to hear. Rely on His guidance rather than worldly wisdom.
  • Evaluate the Fruit: Don't just look at a leader's charisma or signs; look at their fruit. Are they leading people to the biblical Jesus or to themselves?
  • Audit Your Media Consumption: Be mindful of the secular humanism and moral relativism in the shows and news you watch. Balance everything against the Word.
