The Social Media Honeycomb: Building Global Kingdom Connections

Image
Building Kingdom Connections Online It was one of those mornings where the alarm clock felt less like a wake-up call and more like a personal affront. You know the kind—it’s "terribly early," the world is still draped in that heavy, pre-dawn silence, and the sun hasn't even thought about showing up. Your critical thinking skills are still buried deep under the covers, and every fiber of your being wants to hit snooze. But Susan and I have a rule, a spiritual anchor we’ve kept since our wedding day: seek ye first the Kingdom. Before the chaos of the world starts screaming for our attention, before the emails start piling up, and before the noise of the news cycle begins, we get the Word of God into us. We pull up our YourVersion Bible plan—an audio plan we’ve followed for years—and just let the scripture wash over us. There is something transformative about listening to the whole Bible in a year, hearing the grand narrative of God’s redemptive work from Genesis to Revelat...

Exercising Your Spiritual Senses: Walking With Jesus In The Marketplace

Image
Presence Evangelism in Everyday Life I was standing in the middle of a crowded Gulf Coast flea market, holding a plastic bag full of toothbrushes. Ten toothbrushes for a dollar. On paper, it looked like bargain hunting. In the Spirit, it was something else entirely. The air hummed with conversation and bartering, the smell of fried food drifted by, and somewhere in the midst of all that noise, Jesus was quietly orchestrating a series of divine appointments. One lady lit up when she saw our “#Jesus” shirts and before I knew it, she was preaching louder and louder, her face shining as she shared how God had delivered her. Another time, a woman at the gate of that same flea market suddenly started confessing her faults and repenting right there in public. We had done what we always do – prayed, listened, and then simply “went” – but the Lord had done something much bigger than our simple obedience. That tension right there – between everyday activity and supernatural orchestration – i...

Being Jesus‑Centered: From Noise to Knowing

Image
From Chaos to Clarity Keeping Jesus at the center is more than a motto—it is the narrow path that leads from noise to knowing, from scattered effort to Spirit‑led fruit. The invitation is simple: make Christ the focus, and the Father will reward those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). The way is clear in Scripture, lived by the saints, and verified in the secret place where the still small voice cut through the storm (1 Kings 19:12). A Compass in Your Hand, Not a Blueprint on Your Desk We often plead with God for a blueprint, but the Spirit gives a compass (John 16:13). A blueprint tries to eliminate dependence; a compass requires it. Blueprints tempt us to walk by sight; a compass trains us to walk by faith. When our mind is stayed on the Lord, we are kept in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). When our eye is single—fixed on Christ—our whole body is full of light (Matthew 6:22). The early steps may feel small, but obedience in the small makes us trustworthy in the much (Luke 16...

Escaping the Coffee Table: The Spiritual Pursuit of Jesus Beyond Sunday Morning

Image
Faith Must Be A Daily Pursuit Where Muddy Footsteps Become Prayer You hear that? That is the sound of freedom. It’s the call of a bird I can’t quite name, echoing through the cold, damp woods of Mississippi, right next to the Pascagoula River. For months, the deep freeze and relentless rain have kept me indoors, locked in a subtle, psychological cage. I’m out on a prayer walk right now, navigating around great big mud puddles, trying to keep my socks dry and my feet warm. But even the risk of a cold, wet toe is worth this escape. Because let's be honest, we all have that internal, nagging chaos. You’re trying to connect with the Lord—you’re trying to settle into that quiet place—but your mind is a perpetual to-do list flashing red. My house is no different. I love my home, but if I stay too close, I’m close to the chores, you know? Just a few feet away are the dirty dishes, waiting to be scraped and scrubbed. Down the hall is the vacuum cleaner, silently reminding me that the ca...

My Gospel is to the Lukewarm

Image
My Gospel is to the Lukewarm: Why "Lord, Lord" Is Not Enough It started with a simple ping in my inbox. You know the kind—those automated emails from services you haven't used in years trying to claw you back into their ecosystem. This one was from an old journaling platform I used to pay about fourteen bucks a year for. The subject line baited me with a blast from the past: "Here is what you wrote 5 years ago today." It was January 10, 2017. I clicked the link, mostly out of curiosity to see where my head was at half a decade prior. I expected maybe a grocery list or a complaint about the weather. Instead, I stared at a single, terrifying sentence that I had typed into the digital void: "My gospel is to the lukewarm." That sentence didn't just come from my own intellect. It was a marker, a memorial stone of a supernatural encounter that had happened the night before I wrote it, which itself was a confirmation of something that happened way bac...

The Prophetic Cessationist: How God Used a Bowl of Chili to Warm Cold Souls

Image
Prophetic Chili in the Cold I am sitting here in my house, surrounded by walls that block the wind, wearing a sweatshirt that keeps me comfortable, and worrying about sound levels for a podcast. Meanwhile, outside my window, the Gulf Coast is plunging into the 20s. It is a bone-chilling cold. The kind of cold that hurts your face if you stand in it too long. And as I sit here, warm and safe, the Holy Spirit begins to agitate my spirit. It is that familiar tug—the one that says comfort is not the calling. There are people out there right now, shivering in thin nylon windbreakers, charging their phones on public outlets just to stay connected to a world that has largely forgotten them. We often sit in our prayer closets crying, "Oh Lord, woe is me," focusing on our own internal struggles, when the quickest path to healing our own souls is to step out and bring healing to someone else. I have found that when we stop focusing on our own lack and start addressing the lack in oth...
