Back to Basics: Mastering the Fundamentals of Seeking the Biblical Jesus

Image
I remember the smell of the locker room and the heavy weight of the helmet on my head back in high school. When you're standing on those sidelines, the air is thick with anticipation, and every fiber of your being is focused on the game. But before you ever get to the big plays, the "Hail Mary" passes, or the championship rings, you have to master the fundamentals. In football, that means learning how to get into a proper three-point stance until your knuckles ache. It means learning to block correctly, to tackle with your head up, and how to make that perfect spiral on the ball. If you lose your fundamentals, you lose the game. It doesn't matter how fancy the play-calling is if the line can't block. Lately, I've seen so much frustration. I see people looking at the state of America, the chaos in our culture, and the shifting sands of our society, and they are desperate for a solution. Years ago, when I started ConradRocks.Net , my motivation was fueled by th...

Ocean Springs Speaks - The State of the Church

Image
The sun was beating down on Highway 90 in Mississippi, that long stretch of asphalt that cuts through the heart of the Bible Belt. It was a Sunday morning, the kind of day where the air is thick with humidity and the smell of the Gulf salt hangs heavy. Joseph and I were in the car, heading toward Ocean Springs for an art festival, our minds buzzing with plans to interview people about their faith. But before we ever reached the crowds, we saw her. She was sixty-eight years old, a small figure against the vastness of the highway, walking at a pace that couldn't have been more than half a mile an hour. She was pulling a small rolling suitcase, a jacket draped over the handle, and a tiny Chihuahua trotting beside her. She didn't look homeless. She looked like someone's grandmother, dressed neatly but clearly in immense physical pain. Every step looked like a battle against gravity. As we watched, car after car—literally thousands of them—zipped past her. It was Sunday mornin...

The Secret to Staying in the Spirit: Transforming Your Prayer Life through Word and Fire

Image
I was sitting there, the steam from my coffee rising in thin, swirling ribbons, much like the prayers I was trying to send up to the throne room. My Bible was open, my heart was willing, but my mind? My mind was everywhere else. Have you ever been there? You start out with the best of intentions, "Lord, I’m yours today," and within three minutes you’re wondering if you remembered to pay the electric bill or what that weird noise in the car was this morning. It’s frustrating. It’s like trying to catch a cloud with your bare hands. You want that deep, supernatural connection, but you keep "bouncing out" of the Spirit and landing hard back in your carnal reality. This is the struggle of the modern believer. We know there is a depth in God we haven’t reached. We hear the stories of the old-timers—the Seymours, the Mullers, the Finneys—who stayed in the presence for hours, and we feel like we’re just splashing in the puddles. We wade into the water, it hits our ankle...

Continue in the Word of God

Image
My Grandfather used to tell me that every time I get bucked off a horse just get right back on. In other words, continue until I mastered the horse. God tells us early in Genesis chapter four that sin lies at the door and we are to rule over it. Genesis 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him . Sin is trying to destroy us :-) And he has a lot of help from our flesh! But seriously, if we've dug ourselves a pit. Or we have developed an iniquity. Or we have opened that door to sin to where the Devil comes in and tramples us over, and over, and over. I'm going to tell you - JUST CONTINUE ! Do you want freedom? Continue in the word of God! Don't give up. Get back on the horse every time you get bucked off! Jesus tells us if we continue in His Word we will be His disciples and we will know the truth and the truth will make us free. ...

Seeking the Throne: The Benefits of a Diligent Prayer Life

Image
The air was heavy, like a wet wool blanket draped over my shoulders. I was sitting in my room, staring at the wall, and I felt that familiar, dark shadow creeping in. If you have ever struggled with depression, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It is a spirit that tries to nest in your hair if you let it. I had seen the doctors, I had taken the pills, but I realized something profound during that season: pills don't work on the devil. I was entertaining thoughts of missing my family, letting the "pity party" go on a little too long. It is like the birds flying over your head—you cannot stop them from flying, but it is your fault if you let them build a nest. I was in the middle of this battle when the Lord began to turn my perspective around. I was reading through Ezekiel, and usually, when I read about the "rebellious people," I see it through a lens of judgment. But the Holy Spirit whispered something different to my heart that day. He showed me His ...
