Breaking the Veil: The Supernatural Revival in Iran and the Western Spiritual Lullaby
Did you know that there is currently a massive, supernatural Christian revival happening in the Islamic Republic of Iran right now?
We are going to be talking about that today. Welcome to yet another edition of Coffee with Conrad. This is Conrad from ConradRocks.net, where the rocks of revelation are being poured out to you. It is my absolute passion for you to have a vibrant, spiritual relationship with the biblical Jesus.
Before I did this podcast, I have to admit that I stumbled across a story that I completely wasn't expecting. When most of us in the West think of Iran, we pretty much think of what we see on television or read in the news. We see dark, angry visions of crowds chanting "Death to America," burning the American flag, calling our nation the "Great Satan," and shouting "Death to Israel".
But brother, let me tell you—that is a smoke screen. That is not what is actually going on inside the country.
The Hidden Reality Behind the Veil
There are two Irans. There is the 10% Iran you see on the news, which controls the country in an oppressive, radical manner, and there is the 90% Iran hidden from the world. The vast majority of the people are just normal, ordinary people. They do not hate Americans—they love America! More importantly, they love God, and they are recognizing that the radical Islamic regime is the problem.
Today, Iran is home to the fastest-growing Church on the face of the earth!
I recently watched an incredible documentary called Sheep Among Wolves, which chronicles this underground movement. Look at the characteristics of this move of God:
- No Earthly Structure: It has no denominational leanings or affiliations.
- No Earthly Assets: They have no government recognition, no bank accounts, no 501(c)(3) tax statuses, and no property or church buildings.
- No Human Hierarchy: They have no centralized leadership, no Bible schools, and no seminaries.
- Led by Women: The movement is predominantly led by women.
- Passionately Pro-Israel: Even though they come from a Muslim background, they aggressively and passionately love the Jewish people.
The sun is setting on Islam in Iran, and the mosques are empty. Ironically, the best evangelist for Jesus in Iran has been the regime itself. The ayatollahs showed the people the true, evil face of Islam under 40 years of their supposed "utopia," which brought nothing but devastation. In their disillusionment, millions are turning away from the darkness and turning directly toward the man from Nazareth, Jesus Christ!
A Tale of Two Churches
While I was investigating this revival, the Holy Spirit brought a massive contrast to my heart regarding the Western Church. We were camping—well, "camping" in a state park cabin in Mississippi with a TV. One afternoon, we decided to drive out and explore the surrounding area.
We drove down a street in a town that was completely poverty-stricken. It was heartbreaking. I looked out the window and saw dilapidated, ruined houses, homes that had been completely burned down, dead animals, and piles of trash scattered everywhere in the yards and streets. People were outside just struggling to get by in a harsh, broken environment.
But as we reached the very end of that impoverished street, my eyes landed on a couple of massive, incredibly expensive, multi-million-dollar church buildings.
I sat there in the car, looking at the contrast, and a question pierced my mind: Where does the money for these buildings come from? If everybody in the immediate neighborhood is completely broke, who paid for these monuments? Are we being sold a bill of goods in the West?
Later that night, we turned on the TV to watch a football game. During the commercial break, a prominent advertisement popped up. A couple of very famous, wealthy celebrity televangelists were coming to a nearby town, and they were literally selling tickets just for people to hear them preach the word of God.
The contrast hit me like a slap of cold water.
On one hand, I was reading about the underground Church in Iran—believers who love not their lives unto the death, who are willing to be beaten, raped, threw into prison, or brutally murdered for the gospel of Jesus Christ. On the other hand, we have the Western Church, where the dominant message is that God exists primarily to make your natural life comfortable, wealthy, and happy.
We go to church and say, "That worship didn't minister to me today," or "I don't like the music at that church". We are so incredibly spoiled that we pick and choose churches based on entertainment value. We focus entirely on the sugary cherry on top of the pie, completely ignoring the steak and potatoes of the true gospel, which is about laying down your life.
The Satanic Lullaby of Comfort
In the Sheep Among Wolves documentary, a leader shared a chilling testimony of an Iranian couple who managed to flee the intense persecution of Iran to move to the United States. They attained the "American Dream"—safety, freedom, and material comfort.
But after a short period of living in America, the wife began to desperately plead with her husband to take her back to Iran.
The husband thought she was losing her mind. Who in their right cookies would want to leave the safety of America to go back to a radical regime where sharing your faith can get you incarcerated, raped, or executed?
But his wife looked at him with deep spiritual discernment and said:
"There is a satanic lullaby here, and all the Christians are sleepy. I am starting to feel sleepy myself."
Brother, that statement should disturb you to your very core. That woman discerned that the spiritual sleepiness of the West was a far greater danger to her eternal soul than the physical executioners of the Islamic Republic!
We are being lulled to sleep by comfort, entertainment, and commercialism. In our carnal reasoning, we look at church as a building we visit for an hour a week to listen to a monologue, run off to eat lunch, and go about our business.
The Church in Iran looks like the Book of Acts. They meet from house to house daily, breaking bread, reading the words of our Lord in red, and simply doing them. They don't have a singular professional "pastor" who must produce a sermon monologue every single week for a paycheck. They are the body of Christ operating in unison.
When the underground believers in Iran ask for prayer, they don't pray for the persecution to end. They say:
"No, don't pray for the persecution to stop. Persecution is growing the Church. If the persecution stops, the growth stops. Pray instead for the gospel to spread far, wide, and deep!"
Personal Reflections: Power Over Procedure
The Lord has been dealing with me heavily on this contrast. For a long time, I was raised in a cessationist environment where people handled the Bible with strict, carnal intellect but completely denied the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. My carnal mind used to look for earthly approval, trying to figure everything out through logic.
But the Kingdom of God is not about enticing words of man’s wisdom; it is about the demonstration of Spirit and power[cite: 1, 3].
Jesus radically corrected my perspective before I did this podcast. I read the story of a young Iranian believer who was thrown into a brutal prison for refusing to recant his faith in Jesus Christ. While he was being severely beaten by his persecutor, he didn't just pray for the pain to stop. He sought a spiritual relationship with the biblical Jesus.
In the midst of the torment, the Lord gave him a supernatural vision—just like He gave Paul a vision of the man from Macedonia in the night (Acts 16:9 KJV). The Lord showed this prisoner that his persecutor’s mother was terribly sick at home.
After a few more days of beatings, the young Christian stepped out in raw faith. He looked up at the man holding the weapon and asked, "How is your mother?"
The persecutor froze. "What do you mean? What is my mother to you?"
The prisoner replied, "The Lord Jesus showed me in a vision that she is very sick, and I have been praying for her healing."
That supernatural word of knowledge hit the persecutor so hard that he broke down. He looked at the prisoner in shock and said, "Please... continue to pray for my mother." From that exact moment on, he never raised his hand to beat that Christian man again.
That is the power of the living God! That is what happens when we step out of our carnal reasoning and into the supernatural reality of the Holy Spirit.
Biblical References
If you read the Sermon on the Mount, you will see a gospel that does not align with the sleepy Western culture. Jesus explicitly warns us that following Him requires crossing a narrow path and entering through a straight gate.
When you look at the Book of Acts, you see a Church that thrived without assets, properties, or institutional structures:
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart (Acts 2:46 KJV).
When you look at how the Lord views those who lay down their lives for the truth, the Book of Revelation shows us that the blood of the martyrs is precious to the Kingdom:
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? (Revelation 6:9-10 KJV).
Jesus explicitly told us how to navigate when the world turns its hatred toward us:
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also (John 15:20 KJV).
Key Takeaways
- The Global Shift: The fastest-growing Church in the world is currently underground in Iran, led predominantly by women, and completely devoid of church buildings, bank accounts, or corporate structures.
- The Trap of Comfort: Material prosperity and safety in the West have produced a spiritual sleepiness—a satanic lullaby—that anesthetizes our faith.
- True Church Structure: The biblical model of the Church is house-to-house, community-driven, and focused on executing the words of Jesus, rather than passive sermon entertainment.
- The Power of Persecution: Spiritual opposition and trials often act as a catalyst that purifies believers and multiplies the true gospel.
Conclusion and Call to Action
Brothers and sisters, it is time for us to wake up from the lullaby. Let's stop judging a book by its cover, dig deeper, and go higher in our faith! We cannot allow ourselves to be put to sleep by the comfortable lies that the world pays for us to hear, see, and read.
If you want to dig deeper into the incredible stories of the underground church, I highly recommend reading The Heavenly Man, a book about the miraculous survival and revival within the persecuted Chinese church. I will have the link to that book and the free *Sheep Among Wolves* YouTube documentary in the show notes at ConradRocks.net.
Thank you so much for being a part of my life. Until we meet again, dig deeper and go higher!
Action Items
- Audit Your Spiritual Wakefulness: Set aside 15 minutes of complete silence today without your phone, television, or computer. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where the "satanic lullaby" of comfort has caused you to fall asleep.
- Ditch the Passive Consumption: Read the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew Chapters 5–7) this week. Do not just read it for head knowledge or theology; pick one specific command in red and actively execute it in your life.
- Pray for the Persecuted Church: Commit to a regular prayer routine for our underground brothers and sisters in Iran and other restricted nations. Do not pray for their trials to disappear; pray exactly how they ask—for the gospel to spread far, wide, and deep through their radical obedience.
- Evaluate Your Church Motivation: The next time you gather with fellow believers, consciously shift your mindset from a consumer ("What can I get out of this service?") to a participant ("How can I build up the body of Christ from house to house?").
