Breaking the Ties to the Sinful Past

  Walking Free from Your Sinful Past Jesus does not merely forgive our past; He calls us into a new way of living. For many believers, the hardest part is not agreeing that God forgives them. The hard part is removing the things that keep pulling their heart back toward what Jesus delivered them from. Sometimes those ties are obvious. A habit, a relationship, an object, a place, or a form of entertainment may repeatedly open a door to the old life. Other ties are quieter: secret nostalgia, unresolved bitterness, old identity labels, private compromises, or the belief that we will always be the person we used to be. The Holy Spirit is faithful to put His finger on the places where freedom still needs to be walked out. This is not legalism. Legalism tries to earn God’s love by outward performance. Freedom responds to God’s love by removing what entangles us. The Lord is not trying to take life from us. He is leading us away from the things that poison our peace, cloud our thinking...
