Today we are digging deeper into the mysteries of the prophetic. I’m not exactly sure how I originally intended to title this session, but as I sat down with my cup, the Spirit began to move. I’m shotgunning a lot of prophetic topics today because my passion is for you to have a real, vibrant, spiritual relationship with the biblical Jesus. And let’s be honest—that relationship is inherently spiritual and often prophetic.
I remember one morning quite clearly. I was in a state of deep prayer, the kind where the world around you starts to fade and the presence of God becomes the only thing that’s "real." Suddenly, something rushed to my remembrance. That is exactly how the Spirit of Truth works. When you get quiet, He guides you into all truth and brings things to your remembrance, just like Jesus promised. In that moment, a recent dream came back to me with startling clarity. It wasn't just a random image; it had parallels to other dreams and prophetic words I’d been hearing lately.
It made me realize a hard truth that many in the prophetic movement miss: sometimes interpretation is a no-brainer, but most of the time, we try to force a meaning onto a dream because of what we want it to mean. We’re facing a world full of spiritual static, and if we aren't careful, we’ll start broadcasting our own desires instead of the King’s message. You might be feeling that frustration right now—that sense that God is speaking, but the signal is fuzzy, or you’re only getting half the story.
The pain point for many of us is the "prophetic gap." We see something, but we don't understand it, or worse, we misinterpret it and end up in a mess. The solution isn't to stop seeking; it’s to learn how to "Team Jesus" the revelation. We have to understand that we only prophesy in part. Today, I want to show you how to discern the source of your visions, how to work with the Body of Christ to find the full picture, and why God sometimes intentionally hides things from His prophets.
When we talk about the prophetic, we have to start with the understanding that it is a team effort. Think about the stories we see in the Word. God gave Pharaoh a dream—the seven fat cows and the seven skinny cows—but Pharaoh didn't have the interpretation. He had the "what," but not the "why" or the "how." He needed Joseph. Even before that, in the prison, the butler and the baker each had a dream. They were distressed because there was no one to interpret them.
I love what Joseph said in Genesis 40:8: And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpretation of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you. (Genesis 40:8 KJV).
Interpretations belong to God. It’s a joint effort—a "Team Jesus" effort. It reminds me of Daniel, where an angel had to come and cause him to understand the vision. If a giant of the faith like Daniel needed help understanding what he saw, why do we think we can just "wing it" on our own?
Discerning the Source
One of the most critical things I teach, and I’ve written about this in my book OPEN YOUR EYES: MY SUPERNATURAL JOURNEY, is that you must know the source. Just because you see something in the spirit doesn't mean it’s from God. Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 5:3 that a dream cometh through the multitude of business (Ecclesiastes 5:3 KJV). Sometimes your brain is just processing a busy day.
When people first get into "spiritual Christianity," they often get over-excited. They’ll have a dream about a new car and immediately announce, "Thus saith the Lord, I’m getting a Cadillac!" Well, hold on a minute. You might just be picking up on what I call "spiritual body odor." This happens when a person is so concerned or worried about a specific thing—like a car or a relationship—that a novice prophetic person "smells" it in the spirit and thinks it’s a word from God. No, you’re just picking up on their carnal desires.
We have to have our senses exercised by reason of use. In Jeremiah, God warns about prophets who prophesy the "deceit of their own heart."
I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; (Jeremiah 23:25-26 KJV).
This is a dangerous place to be. It sounds like the people Jesus mentioned in Matthew 7 who claimed to prophesy in His name, but He told them, "I never knew you." They were doers of iniquity because they weren't yoked with Him. When Jesus says, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me (Matthew 11:29 KJV), He’s talking about working the field with Him. You learn the prophetic while you’re "working the field" of evangelism and ministry, not just sitting in a vacuum.
The Limousine Vision
Let me give you a concrete example of how this "prophesying in part" works. A while back, someone brought a dream to me. As they were describing it, the vision suddenly opened up before my eyes. I could see it like a movie playing in the room.
There was a man dressed incredibly well—expensive suit, polished shoes—and with him was a lady with very strange hair. It looked like it was styled into the shape of rams' horns. They were riding in this long, sleek limousine. For some reason, I knew in the spirit that it was an "Italian limousine." As they reached their destination and stepped out, the entire chassis of the car just fell off. Everything underneath was exposed—the rust, the grime, the truth.
I knew exactly what it meant, but only in part. I told the person, "There is a very wealthy, very large Italian ministry that is about to be exposed." But I was blocked on the specific name. I started wondering, "Is it a specific singer? Is it this person or that person?" I couldn't see the name.
The interpretation went back to the dreamer, who immediately said, "Conrad, that’s it. It’s the Catholic Church." And what happened shortly after that? The massive pedophile scandals involving the hierarchy began to break wide open across the globe. We worked together—Team Jesus—to get the full message.
When God Sends a Lying Spirit
This is a part of the prophetic that makes people uncomfortable, but we have to look at the whole counsel of God. Did you know that God can actually send a lying spirit or allow a prophet to be deceived to accomplish His judgment?
In 1 Kings 22, the prophet Micaiah describes a scene in the throne room of God. The Lord asks who will persuade King Ahab to go to battle so he can fall. A spirit steps forward and says, "I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets." And God tells him to go and do it.
Even more startling is Ezekiel 14: And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and I will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. (Ezekiel 14:9 KJV).
Why would God do this? Because the people had set up idols in their hearts. If you go to a "prophet" with an idol in your heart, God might just give you the answer your idol wants to hear as a form of judgment. This is why staying "plugged into the wall"—staying abiding in Jesus—is non-negotiable. If you aren't plugged in, you’re just a vacuum cleaner with no suction.
Personal Reflections
I’ve made plenty of mistakes in this journey, and that’s how I’ve learned to be careful. Sometimes God gives me what looks like a "cartoon." I’ll see something so bizarre, like a cheerleader telling pigs to fly, and my carnal mind wants to make it sound "holy" and "prophetic." I used to try to interpret those things on the fly, and I’d feel that check in my spirit—I was wrong.
I learned to be like Jeremiah. When God asked him, "What do you see?" he didn't add to it. He said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north (Jeremiah 1:13 KJV). Now, I just tell people exactly what I see, no matter how silly it sounds to me. "I see a cheerleader and some flying pigs." Often, the person I’m talking to will burst into tears because that specific image means everything to them. God was hiding the meaning from me to keep me humble and to ensure the glory went to Him.
I also learned the hard way about "praying it through." I remember once, I was just writing down a date—March 11th. Suddenly, I went into a trance. It was like my soul left my body for a moment. When I came to, I was terrified. I knew something catastrophic was going to happen on March 11th.
But because I only had a part of the puzzle, I let my own fears fill in the gaps. I started calling friends saying, "I think there’s going to be a Muslim attack! Gas up your cars!" I was running with the football, but I was running in the wrong direction. When March 11th actually arrived, it wasn't an attack—it was the massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I had the date right, but I hadn't prayed it through enough to get the "what."
I talk about these kinds of spiritual pitfalls and how to overcome them in my other book, Overcoming Night Terror: Making the Demons Leave. Discerning the difference between a warning from God and an attack from the enemy is vital for your peace of mind.
Biblical References
The Word of God is the ultimate discerner. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12 KJV). This is how we know if a vision is from our soul (our emotions) or from the Spirit.
We must remember that in this dispensation, we know in part, and we prophesy in part (1 Corinthians 13:9 KJV). It’s like a puzzle. When we come together in an "Acts 13" meeting—fasting and ministering to the Lord—the corporate anointing takes over. My cup runs over, your cup runs over, and suddenly the "spillover" creates a clear picture of what God is doing.
God promises to reveal His secrets to His servants: Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7 KJV). But He reveals them in His way, and often in pieces, so that we remain dependent on Him and each other.
Key Takeaways
- Interpretation is God’s Territory: Never try to force a meaning onto a revelation. If you don't have the interpretation, wait, or find your "Joseph."
- Prophesy in Part: Recognize that your vision is likely just one piece of a larger puzzle. You need the Body of Christ to see the whole picture.
- Stay Plugged In: Abiding in the Word and the Spirit is the only way to maintain a clear signal. Without Him, you can do nothing.
- Watch for "Spiritual Body Odor": Be careful not to mistake someone’s carnal desires or your own "multitude of business" for a word from the Lord.
- Pray it Through: Don't rush to announce a word. Take the time to sit with God, like Ezekiel or Jeremiah, and let Him clarify the vision.
Conclusion and Call to Action
The prophetic isn't about being a "super-spiritual" lone wolf. It’s about a humble, yoked walk with Jesus. Whether it’s a date on a calendar, a vision of a limousine, or a mathematical formula found in the Bible codes, God is speaking today. He wants to guide you into all truth and show you things to come.

Action Items
- The 24-Hour Rule: The next time you have a vivid dream or vision, wait at least 24 hours and pray over it before sharing it as a "word" from God.
- Scripture Soak: Read Jeremiah 23 and Ezekiel 14 this week. Ask the Holy Spirit to sharpen your discernment regarding the "source" of spiritual information.
- Find Your Team: Identify two or three spiritually mature believers you can trust to "judge" a word with you, as 1 Corinthians 14:29 suggests.
- Record the "Unfinished": Keep a journal specifically for "puzzle pieces"—visions or words that don't make sense yet. Often, God will provide the second half of the message weeks or months later through someone else.
