Former Chicago Gangster Encountered Jesus and Never Stopped Sharing the Gospel

Image
Meeting Fred Outside Jerry Lee's This is Fred. I met him standing outside of Jerry Lee's, handing out handwritten gospel tracts. They were not glossy marketing pieces or slick church invitations. They were simple, handwritten, photocopied tracts from a man who had something burning in him and wanted people to know Jesus. I had to get his story. When you see someone standing out in public sharing the gospel like that, especially at his age, you know there is usually a testimony behind it. So I asked him why he was standing outside the store handing out tracts. His answer was simple. He said he could not help but share the gospel. It was like fire shut up in his bones. That phrase immediately points me to Jeremiah, who said, "his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones" (Jeremiah 20:9 KJV). Fred was not out there because somebody gave him a ministry assignment or because he was trying to build a platform. He was out there because Jesus had done so...

Entering the Secret Place: How to Worship in Spirit and Truth

Image
Entering the Secret Place  I remember standing in the back of a sanctuary once, watching the lights dim and the fog machine start to puff out little clouds of atmosphere. The band was tight—I mean, they had the professional "shimmer" down to a science. The chords were right, the lyrics were theological enough, and everybody was clapping along. But as I stood there, I felt this strange, heavy grieving in my spirit. It wasn't that the music was bad; it was that the Holy Spirit had actually showed up in the room, but He was being largely ignored. He was standing in the aisle, so to speak, ready to heal and deliver, but the program was so rigid that there was no room for Him to move. People thought they were at a concert, looking for entertainment, while the Treasure of Heaven was right there under their noses, untapped. Maybe you’ve felt that same void. You go through the motions, you sing the songs, but your heart feels like it’s banging against a brass ceiling. You’re thi...

FOUR WINDS: A Call to Revival and Obedience

Image
We sold most of our possessions from a four-bedroom home and squeezed into a twenty-nine-foot trailer named the FOUR WINDS. That sounds strange to some people, but there are moments when obedience to God does not fit neatly inside the plan we made for ourselves. Why We Moved Into the FOUR WINDS Trailer Why would we do something like that? Because I believe there is an urgent call for the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and for the church at large, to come out of lukewarmness and get on fire for Jesus. Not a fire of hype. Not a fire of religious activity. I am talking about revival fire: people returning to their first love, praying again, repenting again, walking in the Spirit again, and taking the gospel seriously. The Urgent Need for Revival Fire in the Church The church in the book of Acts was not built on convenience. The believers waited on God, received power from the Holy Spirit, prayed with boldness, preached Jesus, and loved one another with a holy fear of God. They expected Go...

Does Satan Have a Key to Your Mind? The Truth About Spiritual Privacy

Image
Does Satan Know our Thoughts? I remember the smell of stale coffee and the sound of cards riffling through experienced fingers. Years ago, long before I was pouring out rocks of revelation on the podcast, I spent a lot of time at the card table. I wasn't just playing the game; I was studying the people. I figured out early on that human beings have "tells." If a guy hit his straight flush, the very first thing he would do—almost like a reflex—was glance down at his chips and then immediately look away. He was already doing the math, wondering how much he could bleed from the rest of the table. Or I’d watch how they held their cards. Most people naturally organize their hand from largest to smallest, usually keeping the big cards on the left. If you just watched their eyes and their hands, you didn't need to be a psychic to know exactly what they were holding. Many of you come to me with a heavy burden, a nagging fear that the enemy is sitting right inside your head,...

Activating Kingdom Seekers: Knowing the Way of God More Perfectly

Image
Do You Know the Author? I was sitting there with my coffee, the steam rising in the morning light, listening to the pings on my phone. It was my missionary friends over on Voxer. We were deep in a conversation about evangelism—real, boots-on-the-ground evangelism. One of them was talking about the struggle we all face when we’re out there in the "Bible Belt." You know the scene. You approach someone to talk about the radical, life-changing power of Jesus, and before you can even finish your sentence, they put up a hand. "Oh, I already did the prayer," they say. They’ve got their "fire insurance" tucked away in a mental drawer, but there’s no fire in their eyes. There’s no hunger for the presence of God. It’s like they’ve checked a box and then wa lked away from the very Person the box was supposed to connect them to. This is the pain point of modern Christianity. We have millions of people who have "confessed with their mouth" but have never bee...
